General Feedback text for Overall score of 67-100%From your self-identified score, it appears you’re doing really well in the majority of areas. Well done! But, as you know (or you probably wouldn’t have taken this quiz), there’s always room for improvement and it’s never wise to rest on your laurels! Take a few minutes to review your personalised feedback below, which I hope you’ll find useful to keep your momentum and focus on your business and personal goals.Topic 1 Key Area of ImprovementPurposeRunning your own legal business, especially in the early days, involves hard work and long hours. It’s no surprise that many legal business owners often wonder why on earth they are doing it to themselves or why they left traditional practice! Positive motivation comes from having a clear purpose and keeping it front of mind. This can counteract the fear, make the struggle worthwhile and remind you of the bigger picture. As a first step to defining your purpose, try thinking about your business plan in a different way. Instead of focusing on income goals or bagging certain clients, consider what you want from your business in terms of your lifestyle, your work/life balance and doing work that you find rewarding and enjoyable, at least most of the time. Spend some time working out your vision and values to get you thinking about what you want from your business and your life.Ask yourself; What values are really important to you about the way you run your business and live your life?Values might include: freedom, contribution, security, happiness, integrity, honesty, enjoyment, fun - what are your values? If you could only have 5 values, what would they be?Once you have your list, do you see evidence of these values in your life and business now? How could you bring in more? Topic 2 Key Area of ImprovementPlanningYou might have a clear idea of what you want to achieve with your business. But, consider how you are going to get there if you’re stuck responding to clients all day long instead of making plans for the future? The first step you can take right now is to spend a little time thinking about where you want to be in 12 months time. Then break that down into manageable quarterly goals. To help you start plotting your roadmap to success ask yourself the following questions; What do I want my business to look like in 12 months and 3 or 5 years? What sort of income do I expect in 12 months time, 3 or 5 years time? What sort of hours/days do I want to be working in my business? It's up to you! What sort of work do I want to be doing?Do I want to be doing a lot of fee-earning? Do I want to be doing more management/business development and less fee-earning?What sort of clients do I want to be working with? What support do I need now? What support would I like to have in place in the next 12 months? What do I NOT want to be doing? What do I enjoy outside of my business that I need to make time for?Topic 3 Key Area of ImprovementDecision MakingStrong decision making means prioritising and choosing only the best clients - those you enjoy working for, and are generally profitable. Often, the fear of not having work leads us to take on everything and anything with no strategic decision making process at all.A great first step to improve in this area is to draw up a list of ‘yes’ and ‘no’ clients.Put them on your wall and refer to it if you're tempted to take on work that your gut instinct warns you against! Topic 4 Key Area of ImprovementTimeIf you want to get the most value out of your time you need to think ‘delegation, delegation, delegation'. There are so many critical tasks involved in running your own business but let’s face it, many of them don’t require a law degree (or similar). Why spend your valuable time on tasks you can pay someone else to do. Another benefit of taking on someone else is that it helps switch your mindset from employee to business owner.Keep a record of where you are spending your time right now and consider which tasks are worth your time and which should be outsourced either now or in the near future when you are ready to expand your team. (Note: you probably need to get this support in place before you feel ready). Topic 5 Key Area of ImprovementBusiness DevelopmentDoes the thought of networking make you feel all icky? You’re not alone, most lawyers would rather endure a root canal than attend a networking event. We crave authenticity, we want to network in a way that makes genuine connections. The key to developing your business and making contacts is to know your strengths and what you enjoy. For example, you might be more comfortable meeting people face to face than online. However you do it, do it consistently. Make it part of your routine, establish a base level of networking activity that is going on all the time.Prepare for some meaningful networking by asking yourself; What sort of clients do I want to be working with and where can I find them? What are my strengths when it comes to client/business attraction? What works well for me?What sort of business development activities would I like to try? Or to focus on first? How do I feel about LinkedIn, Blog Posts, Articles, YouTube, Podcasts, even Clubhouse? What support do I need now with BD/social media? What support would I like to have in place in the next 12 months? What do I NOT want to be doing?Topic 6 Key Area of ImprovementStress ManagementWe all have worries over different areas of our lives and work. TestimonialsTestimonial Box 1"Sessions with Hannah were incredible. They came at a pivotal point for my practice/business plan and Hannah really helped to navigate me in a positive direction. Hannah really listens to your challenges and provides straight-talking and commercially pragmatic advice whilst at the same time supporting you as an individual. The best thing about Hannah is that she has quite obviously “worn the T-shirt” when it comes to developing her own business and the challenges that can present in terms of (amongst other things) work-life balance and starting out as a self-employed lawyer. I would whole-heartedly recommend Hannah to anyone searching for a business coach particularly within the consultancy-based/self-employed lawyer sector."– Corporate M&A LawyerTestimonial Box 2"Being around the right people definitely does expedite your growth and it definitely is inspiring.
